Is this a TPRS blog?

Well now, that is a good question.  I am, admittedly, a teacher dedicated to the use of Comprehensble Input in the language classroom.  So what I do, and what I say, will reflect that.

But the blog?  Well that's for anyone.  I'm blogging to puzzle my way out of dead-ends in the classroom.  I'm blogging to share the wit and wisdom of my students.  I'm blogging to bounce ideas off of the universe.  I'm blogging to see what happens.  So anyone who would like to read it is welcome.

As for TPRS..... I will blog about the fact that....

I believe that Teachers are People who are Revolutionary and Stellar.
and that we should Treat People as if they are Really Special.
Sometimes I am tempted to Tell People to Resist Stupidity (including myself).
I am not as good as I should be at saying Thank you, Please, you were Right and Sorry.
I know that
Thinking Positively Reaps benefits for the Soul
and that change requires Taking Positive Responsible Steps.
I understand that Traveling Places Reveals Secrets
and have seen that Time Passes Really Quickly in the Summer.

I think that it is important to Teach with Passion, Responsibility, and Sensitivity.
And I believe in the power of Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling.

If any of those things resonate with you, I'd love you to blog back at me. :o)
with love,
Laurie

I especially like the Teach with Passion, Responsibility, and Sensitivity. So many "good" teachers could be really GREAT if they added the heart component. I believe it is my responsibility as a teacher to know what is going on in the lives of my students so that I can better help them and instruct them. If I know that Suzy Q's grandma passed away last week, and that she's still sad about that, I can cut her some slack. If I know that I am the first POSITIVE adult Alan sees each day in 1st hour French because his mom is verbally abusive, that matters! We have so much opportunity to positively impact our students as people before we teach them a single thing related to our content. Students are Real people living in the Real world, too.
    Thanks for blogging, Laurie!
    love your positive words,
    Michelle M.

You are so right about the heart component. Sometimes this entire piece is misunderstood. We aren't talking about sordid details here. We don't want to get involved in their drama. We don't want to know about our students so that we can gossip. We don't want to give them excuses. We don't want to share their pain. We don't want to be their confidante so that we can have a new friend. We want to be able to honor the circumstances in their lives because we see them as Real People.

    Laurie
