Pongo Pavo En La Pizza
In September my classes started playing a little game I call Mentirosos (Liars). It's a game that has been played all kinds of places and for some reason this group of freshmen just love it. (you can see a description on the 9/27 blog Te Lo Juro)
This week we have been talking about a specialty pizza that our local grocery store is offering for November. (not really...but they always have one so it was a great lead in!!) Each class created their own Thanksgiving Pizza from typical Thanksgiving foods. First period designed a roll crust with butter, turkey and corn. Third period is offering a stuffing crust with turkey, gravy and green beans. Fifth period went crazy with a mashed potato crust, turkey, gravy, peas and cranberries. We had a great time talking about who eats what, what the pizza should be made of, and how the layers should be placed on the pizza for the best visual / taste effect.
On Friday they asked to play Mentirosos with the pizza vocabulary. What's great about Mentirosos is that we can adapt it for anything!!! This week the line each player was trying to sell the class was: I put turkey on my pizza.
I cannot tell you how well they reacted to this idea! (perhaps the best way to reach a student is through his/her stomach!). I don't know if it was the alliteration: Pongo Pavo En La Pizza, or the physical reaction to the idea of eating turkey on pizza...but I overheard them throwing the phrases around all day long!
